KROSSWINDZ
Krosswindz is a Bengali (Indian) Contemporary Folk and Fusion band who are celebrated in India for being a pathbreaking band and a Grassroot Grammy Award-winning artist based in Kolkata, India. They have performed their music all over India and overseas. Krosswindz has helped urbanize the folk music of India and has made it popular with its signature world music touch. Krosswindz is one of the few Kolkata-based Contemporary Bengali bands with a female singer on lead vocals. The band was formed in 1990, and started out playing at college festivals. They have toured all over the globe and have played at all the major Music festivals and prominent concerts in Asia and Europe along the way. They were in the USA this October 2024 and played concerts across the West Coast and East Coast to wide acclaim.
Krosswindz is the only band from Asia to win two awards at the recently concluded Grassroot Grammy (JPF) Awards held in Indianapolis IN,USA, Krosswindz won Best International Group and Best Asian Album respectively. Krosswindz has also won the Album of the Year from the prestigious Indian Music Awards-The Mirchi Music Awards for the years 2012 and 2016.
The band is focussing on a modern Bengali Folk sound that soars on the wings of the excelling Vocals of Chandrani and the deft music arrangements of Vikramjit. They have crafted a unique signature sound that they call "World-Rock" which is an amalgamation of Folk music traditions from around the world with a bedrock immediacy of a Rock band ; something that has touched audiences on their most recent USA Concert tour in October 2024 in a profound way and the band are already getting requests for a follow-up concert tour.
