SWEDISH FIKA WITH ARTISTS AT WOMEX 2022

For this year's Womex in Lisbon, we chose to create a completely new concept in our stand - "Fika with artists". We wanted to remove ourselves from the role of "gatekeepers" and instead let our musicians meet international bookers and potential collaboration partners directly via a digital "coffee". It also became a way to create genuine meetings, digitally.

For the talks, we offered brewed coffee and Astrid's home-baked raspberry caves. We received a lot of appreciation for our concept, and managed to create some "buzz" at the fair. Portuguese radio came by and broadcast live with Anna Rynefors on digital link.

After the success, we continue to think about how we can develop and reuse the concept at more fairs in the future. Sweden Live was a first occasion where we had three artists from the different regions take part in digital coffee.

Speculative design workshops with The Time travel agency. Text from Time travel agencys website:

For their first event, the Baltic 2.0 crew – consisting of music artists and managers – wanted to imagine their future as a network where they would share knowledge, resources, and expertise, and since more gatherings were coming in just a few months, they needed a really short time travel in person.

Their design goals for their first event were:

  • To see the future of themselves as a network via artifacts and interactive–shearable prototypes,

  • To make a container where to place ideas to implement later,

  • To be creative together towards being open to the unknown in the music business environment.
